1. Overview

Modern versions of Outlook are generally compatible with Moonshot. Since Outlook is integrated with the Windows SSPI, then it requires the Moonshot SSP.

In the tables below, the following icons have the following meanings:

•  - This version of the software has been tested and verified as supporting Moonshot.
•  - This version of the software has been tested and verified as not supporting Moonshot.
•  - This version of the software has not yet been tested thoroughly and its status is not known. Let us know if you have tried it and whether it worked or not!

Note that accessing supported versions of this software requires a Moonshot compatible client - see the the table below for details on which clients are supported.

6. Next Steps

Now that you have a Moonshot-enabled Microsoft Outlook client, you should go ahead an add an account from a (Moonshot-enabled) service!

6.1. Adding an Account

1. Load Microsoft Outlook. Assuming this is the first time you've used it, a wizard dialogue should appear. Click next.
2. You want Outlook to create an account for you, so select "Yes" and click next.
    
3. Since this is not a standard type of Exchange account (you don't want to provide an Exchange username and password but instead want to authenticate via Moonshot), choose "manual setup".
    
4. We are connecting to a Moonshot Exchange server, so choose "Microsoft Exchange Server".
    
5.  You are now prompted to enter the server settings. These will be:
   • Server: The DNS name of the Exchange server you are trying to connect to

   • User Name: The username of the AD account that has the mailbox provisioned. 

     Example

     If you were trying to connect to the "testuser" mailbox on on a server with hostname "moonshot-exch.moonshot.local":

     

6. Click on "Check Name". This will trigger the authentication process for that particular account, which should throw up a Windows credential dialogue. Here you should enter:
   • Username: The NAI of your Moonshot-enabled federated identity
     

   • Password: The corresponding password
     

     Example

     If the username of your account was "rhys@dev.ja.net" and the password was "testing123":

     

7. If all works correctly (i.e., your credentials were valid, and the Moonshot-enabled Exchange server was configured to allow your NAI to authenticate as the Exchange username you indicated) then you should be returned to the wizard which will indicate the authentication was successful by underlining the settings you entered.
   
   
   
8.  Click "Next", and enjoy your Exchange mailbox!
